Dear Father and Mother:

I received your letter quite a while ago but did not have time to answer it. I was wounded about [Censor must have blotted out this number. We know now it was on October 4th, four days prior to this letter.] days ago, but not bad, got a piece of shrapnel in my left leg just above the ankle.

I am getting along fine and will be out again before long. I am in the American Red Cross Hospital. No. 5., Paris. Still address my mail to the company as I expect to be back with them soon.

With love I remain your son,

Robert E. Schalles
